Frequently Asked Questions

If there is anything you’re curious about that is not covered in the FAQs, don’t hesitate to email me at terryduncan@duncandesignstudio.net

What areas do you serve?

Duncan Design Studio serves homeowners on the northshore of Boston, MA, including Peabody and nearby surrounding communities. If you’re unsure whether your home is in range, reach out with your address and I’ll let you know what’s possible.

What types of projects do you take on?

I focus on residential interiors—furnishing, refreshing, or rethinking the main living areas, bedrooms, and other everyday spaces in your home. I also support renovations with finish and fixture selections and overall design direction.

What’s the difference between your Designer for a Day Services and Full-Service Interior Design?

Designer for a Day services (like The Style Starter, The Space Refinement, and The Signature Home Session) are best for focused guidance and a clear plan you can implement yourself. Full-Service Interior Design Service is a start‑to‑finish experience where I handle the overall vision, selections, and coordination so you don’t have to manage all the details.

How do I know which service is right for me?

We’ll start with a short discovery call to talk about your home, goals, and timeline. I’ll recommend the service level that makes the most sense based on how many rooms you’re tackling, how much support you want, and your investment level.

What should I expect to invest in a project?

Because every home and scope is different, total investment varies. I can provide a rough range after our discovery call and refine it once we define your spaces, priorities, and whether you’re furnishing only or also renovating.

Do you work with existing furniture and decor?

Yes, whenever possible. I’m happy to incorporate pieces you love and build around them. During our initial walk‑through, we’ll decide what stays, what should move to another space, and where new pieces are needed to complete the design.

Do you manage contractors and trades?

For full-service projects, I coordinate design details and communicate design intent with your contractor and trades. I don’t act as a general contractor, but I collaborate closely so finishes, fixtures, and layouts are installed as designed.

Can you work with me remotely?

For local clients, most projects include in‑home visits. In some cases, I can offer virtual design services using photos, measurements, and video calls; if you’re interested in remote support, mention it in your inquiry.

How long does a typical project take?

Session-based services can be completed within a few weeks from booking. Full-service projects, especially those involving renovations or significant furnishing, often span several months depending on scope, product lead times, and contractor schedules.

How do we get started?

Start by filling out the inquiry form or sending a quick email with a few details about your home and what you’re hoping to achieve. I’ll follow up to schedule a discovery call, and from there we’ll outline next steps and the best service for you.
