I'm Terry Duncan the founder and principal designer of Duncan Design Studio. I bring over 25 years of professional experience in problem‑solving, project coordination, and client service to residential interiors on the northshore of Boston, MA. Drawing on a background in residential and commercial Architecture that spans both creative work and detailed, operations‑driven roles, I'm skilled at balancing big‑picture vision with the many small decisions that make a project successful.  I created this studio out of a deep belief that the spaces we live in shape how we feel every single day—how we wake up, how we unwind, and how we connect with the people we love.

 

Over the years, I’ve seen again and again that home is where the real moments happen: weeknight dinners that turn into long conversations, holidays that are a little chaotic and a lot joyful, quiet mornings with coffee in your favorite chair. Your home shouldn’t just “work”; it should feel like a place you can’t wait to come back to. If you’re not there yet, that’s exactly where I come in.

Design philosophy

At Duncan Design Studio, I believe your home should be beautiful, highly functional, and unmistakably you—not a copy of what everyone else is doing.

Design projects come with what feels like a never-ending list of decisions: layouts, paint colors, finishes, fixtures, fabrics, furniture, lighting…the list goes on. It’s easy to get stuck, second‑guess yourself, or run out of steam. My job is to simplify that process—narrow the choices, create a clear vision, and guide you through each decision so the project feels manageable and, yes, even enjoyable.

From the big-picture concept down to the last styling detail, I’m here to coordinate the moving parts so you can focus on living in your home, not managing the project.

 

My style

Duncan Design Studio leans into a warm, relaxed modern look that feels fresh but never fussy—clean lines, comfortable pieces, layered textures, and a mix of old and new that feels collected over time.

I design real homes for real life: places where people kick off their shoes, kids spread out homework and art projects, and guests actually want to linger. Materials, layouts, and furnishings are chosen with everyday living in mind, so your rooms can handle movie nights, muddy boots, and the occasional spill while still looking pulled together.
